You may associate dining in the Alps with its hearty Raclettes, Fondues and Tartiflettes fulfilling the skiers appetite – but, there is more to the Alps than meets the stomach!

Last month saw one of the world’s largest and most prestigious culinary competitions in Lyon, where 24 finalist chefs gathered from 3 continents to compete for the title of, “Le Bocuse d’Or”.

French Chef, “Paul Bocuse” created the event in 1987 which takes place over 5 days every 2 years in the gastronomic capital of France, Lyon. The event entices foodies from across the globe coming to get a first glimpse of the newest trends in the world of gastronomy.

There are all kinds of demonstrations and exhibits, including the “Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie”, the National Cheese making contest and best Winemaker, however the awaited event is the contest between the 24 best chefs in the world competing for Gold in “Le Bocuse d’Or”.

This year, not only did the UK make history with their best result to date coming 4th in the competition, it saw local French chef, Thibaut Ruggeri win the title, who trained in the Michelin Star restaurant, Le Flocon de Sel in Megeve, Haute Savoie. Le Flocon de Sel is just  one of 75 Michelin Starred restaurants in the Rhone Alpes.
